Supporting the whole family

Family life is so important to young people leading healthy lives. As part of our work, we want to offer support to parents, through giving mums and dads opportunities to have that all-important time out, as well as opportunities to meet other parents and share parenting tips together. We also provide courses that will help parents better understand some of the key things affecting young people today.

Mental Health First Aid for Parents

We all have mental health. Better mental health is good for everyone and recognising this is good for society. For parents, taking time to understand mental health means you can feel more confident to support your child if they find themselves struggling. Mental Health First aid is a great way to do that.

Our Adult MHFA Two Day course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider.

Mental Health First Aiders have:

  • An in depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing

  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues

  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress

  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening

  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix

What to expect

Learning takes place across four manageable sessions. Through a mix of group activities, presentations and discussions, each session is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan.

We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn.

Everyone who completes the course gets:

  • A manual to refer to whenever you need it

  • A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health

  • A certificate of attendance to say you are a Mental Health First Aider

Parentalk / 6 Sessions

£15 Per Person or £30 Per Couple

The teenage years are a time of transition and can be challenging for both teenagers and parents. Parentalk is a great precursor to the positive parenting course, and it's all about helping mums and dads do the best job they can as they navigate these years with their teenager. It’s a relaxed, informal course giving you the opportunity to talk about the day-to-day challenges you face, as well as sharing the things that are going well.
